Hello, my name is Howard Coffman. I am the inventor of the eezee speek® phonetic alphabet, the author of the Reference Library publications, and developer of this website. Thank you for considering eezee speek®.

I was born in New York City. I want you to know, just in case you start sounding like a New Yorker :-).

By way of education, I have a Bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

I am NOT a trained teacher. I am a Professional Project Manager (PMP) and marketing professional by trade. I learned about phonetics only after I started this project.

The primary phonetic alphabet in use is the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). In my opinion, it is much too complex to understand and use - by anyone!

It makes absolutely no sense to me for someone learning a language. to have to learn a different alphabet to describe the sounds of the original alphabet, and then to have the sounds describing the language, not in the original language.

What were these "educators" thinking?

They solved the problem of representing language in a universal way. What they did in the process was to make it confusing for anyone just trying to learn how to say something in English.

I cannot imagine the difficulty new English learners experience trying to understand and use the International Phonetic Alphabet. I will be very honest with you. I avoid it like the plague.

eezee speek® reverses the chaos created by the IPA and puts order into learning and practicing the English sounds. eezee speek® uses the English letters you already know. Now how easy is that!

I think it is because I am not a professional teacher, that I was able to create this easy and simple-to-use phonetic alphabet and sound descriptions.

I know what English language need to learn. I know how to help them learn it.

I developed this understanding as a result of tutoring English to people mostly from Latin America and South America. I have helped a few people from the Asian countries as well. One of my roommate's was from Brazil and we had an English lesson everyday.

I feel a great sense of accomplishment and purpose.
