This page describes the methodology of selecting the 1,000 most frequently used words at eezee-speek.com and related publications.

Several frequency-based word lists for the English language were located. It was from analyzing these four lists that the eezee speek® 1,000 word list was created.

The first thing was to find out how many lists used a particular word. If a word was used in all four lists, it got a score of 4. If it was used on 3 lists, it got a score of 3, etc.

Next, the ranking value of the four different lists was averaged.

For example, every word frequency list agreed that the word "the" was the most-used word in the English language.

The word "the", has a word-use frequency of 4 and a word ranking of 1.

All the 4-rated words were used in the 1,000-word eezee speek® list. To complete the list of 1,000 words, some 3-rated words were added.

Finally, the word list was sorted by the averaged ranking value.

That is the list we use and how it got that way.
