How eezee speek® Works
eezee speek® is a new phonetic alphabet and approach to learning and practicing English pronunciation.
ee_zee spee_k ih_z ee_zee tuu ler_n.
(eezee speek® is easy to learn.)
Once you learn that double letters represent long (vowel) sounds, and that the under_score is used to visually separate and join sounds, you are on your way!
Here are the vowels:
a == aa e == ee i == ii
This being English, here are the exceptions:
o == oh u == yuu
Notice the letter "u." I have added a "y" in front of the long u. Why? Because that is the way we say it!
I know this is something you can learn, use and do. It is not hard and once you start using it, it makes sense, and you feel like you are making progress.
It may be new, but I guarantee that it is a lot easier that the other approaches that are out there. I know. I have done the research. Take a look at this comparative phonetic chart. Several different alphabets are listed.
Here is another example. Take a look at the word cooked. This is a word that is not pronounced the way it is spelled - cooked. If you pronounced it as it is spelled, it would be cook_eh_d. This particular "ed" ending is actually pronounced like a "T". In eezee speek® the correct pronunciation for cooked is cook_t. It is important to note that in this case, the "k" sound has to completed before the "T." That is what the eezee speek® is telling you.
eezee speek® makes it simple to know what to say. In the process, you learn how words are structured and become familiar with the pronunciation for small and long words. This is preparing you for the future. After a while, you will become skilled at recognizing sounds and how to say them.
The first thing you want to do is isolate each sound. Say each sound COMPLETELY. It is very important that you remember to complete one sound before you say the next sound.
Do this, and you have 50% of the work done!
Do not even think of syllables. Think isolated sounds and SPEAK SLOWLY. Like you are speaking patiently to a young child.
Later, as you become familiar with the individual sounds, you will learn how they join and blend into the sounds that follow.
This benefits, you the speaker, and who ever you are speaking to. Besides, it gives you a chance to hear, what you have just said, and that is a good thing.
To help you know where a sound ends, we use a special character called the under_score "_".
That is the only special character that you will have to ever learn when using eezee speek®.
The under_score is used in two ways:
(1) To give you a visual clue as to where the sound ends. This is done to ensure that you complete one sound before saying the next sound; and
2) The underscore also works to help you join one sound to the next
For example, in the word ee_zee, there are two sounds separated by the under_score, ee and zee. First you say the ee and then you say the zee. That was not so difficult, was it? A final note, every phonetic sound and every one of the 1,000 words on the site has a corresponding audio file. You do not have to struggle. You have the help you need to succeed.
